Here is a little update with pictures of our work this past month. We also want to thank those of you who helped our mission projects. We couldn’t have done without it! Here you see what we were able to do with the support you and other wonderful friends and supporters sent us.

Housing Project

It’s over 4 months ago since the earthquake and typhoon, and a lot of the people on the island Bohol still live in tents, but many, with the help of concerned individuals like you and organisations such as ALPS, Swedish Round Table etc, are now living in new houses, although some of the structures are only temporary. But they do have a roof over their heads and a solid structure to find protection from rain, wind and sun. We were able to identify those in need of housing, organize, coordinate and make sure that the materials that were needed were delivered into the right hands, and then supervise the construction work!

Here you see some of the over 150 houses on the island Pangangan and in the mountains of Maribojoc, in the village Candavid.

Häuserbau

Es ist jetzt schon über 4 Monate her seit dem Erdbeben, und viele Menschen auf der Hauptinsel Bohol leben noch in Zelten. Aber viele haben auch schon Behausungen erhalten, und wenn auch zum Teil nur temporär, so haben sie doch ein festes Dach über dem Kopf. 

Hier seht Ihr ein paar Häuser, die auf der Insel Pangangan und in Candavid, Maribojoc, gebaut worden sind. Soweit sind jetzt schon über 150 fertigkonstruktiert.

With the help and supervision of Father Lito (left in the picture), already 100 houses were constructed on Pangangan island. 100 more are planned. On the picture you see some of the roofing sponsors from ALPS (Aid Line Philippine Swiss) - Auf der Insel Pangangan wurden dank der Initiative von Pfarrer Lito (links im Bild) schon fast 100 temporäre Häuser fertig gebaut. Nochmals 100 sind geplant. Hier mit ein paar ALPS Sponsoren.

Manny (Jo) is experimenting with Hydroponic, and it looks like it’s successful! - Jetzt experimentieren wir mit Hydroponik, und sowie es aussieht, klappts!

Waste Management

At the moment, Manny and Jun are busy with seminars and teaching the local government units of the municipality of Panglao how to segregate and properly recycle waste.

Abfallentsorgung 

Zur Zeit halten Jo und Jun fast jeden Morgen Vorträge in verschiedenen Barangays (Dörfern) über Abfallverwertung und wie man den Abfall rechtmässig recycelt.

Livelihood Project

Here you see some of the finished and sold products that some of the mothers we teach made! Besides teaching the women the craft, we give them the opportunity to earn some money, instead of gambling it away...

Und hier noch ein paar Fotos von Häkelarbeiten, die von unseren Müttern hergestellt worden sind und z.T. schon verkauft wurden. Damit haben die Frauen einen kleinen Verdient und lernen etwas, anstelle mit Karten ihr weniges Geld zu verspielen!

STEPS

In a few days we will hold graduation for the 2 groups of a total of 30 STEPS children before we start with summer classes. In our STEPS school we teach preschoolers from the surrounding poor communities. We focus mainly on reading, simple math and prewriting exercises, to give the children a head start before they enter school. 

We rejoice with you over the work that was accomplished with your help and support, and we pray that God will richly bless you and fill your heart’s desires!

STEPS

In wenigen Tagen feiern wir den Abschluss unserer 2 STEPS-Gruppen, und in den Sommerferien unterrichten wir dann wieder neue Schüler. (Bilder folgen)

Wir freuen uns mit Euch über die Arbeit, die weiterhin wächst und welche dank Eurer Unterstützung gedeiht! Wir wünschen Euch weiterhin Gottes reichsten Segen und beten für Eure Gesundheit und viele erfüllte Tage.

Livelihood Programs - Entwicklungshilfe

Our livelihood programs have been up and running and are at full swing.
• We now hold every two days crochet classes with the mothers of the STEPS children and sell the finished products in the Bellevue resort.
• Some of our STEPS mothers bake bread, seaweed crackers & chips which are for sale at the resort,
• and we teach carpentry work and handyman to several men.

Unsere verschiedenen Entwicklungshilfe-Projekte sind voll im Gange.

• Wir halten nun alle zwei Tage Häkelkurse mit den Müttern der STEPS-Kinder und verkaufen die fertigen Produkte im Bellevue Resort.

• Einige unserer STEPS-Mütter backen Brot, Meeresalgencrackers und -chips, die zum Verkauf im Bellevue angeboten werden,

• und wir lehren junge Männer, einfache Schreiner- und Handwerkerarbeiten auszuführen.

Mom´s Handicrafts

Beginning of March we started a new livelihood project: teaching interested women to do beautiful crochet art, such as necklaces, bracelets, brooches etc. which can be sold later on. - Angang März haben wir mit einem neuen Projekt für Frauen angefangen: mittels Häkeln wunderschöne Kunststücke zu gestalten, wie z.B. Halsketten, Broschen etc., welche dann später verkauft werden können.

Seaweed Seminar - Seminar über die Verwertung von Meeresalgen

       Last week we organized a seminar on the utilization of marine algae. - Letzte Woche organisierten wir ein Seminar über die Verwertung von Meeresalgen.

Here are the participants with their finished products! Each received a certificate, of which they are proud of! - Hier sind die Teilnehmer mit ihren fertigen Produkte! Jeder erhielt ein Zertifikat, auf welches sie stolz sind!

Our Organic Gardening - Unsere Bio-Gärtnerei

We are working on developing our organic gardening and Aquaponic system to get a grip on it and teach & introduce it to the poor in Doljo - Wir arbeiten an der Entwicklung unserer Bio-Gärtnerei und unseres Aquaponiksystems, und sobald wir das ganze im Griff haben, möchten wir es in die Armenviertel einführen.

The seeds have to germinate first beofre they can be transplanted into the Aquaponic grow bed - Das Medium für die Samen ist Erde, Kokosfaser und Kuhmist 

 Our organically grown lettuce - unser Bio-Salat

 After the seedlings are big enough, the are planted into the Aquaponic growbed. The medium is coconut coir in styrofoam board - Nachdem die Setzline gross genug sind werden sie in´s Aquaponikspflanzenbett umgepflanzt. Das Medium ist Kokosfaser in Styropor.

 The plants grow faster in Aquaponic grow beds as in a traditional way - Die Pflanzen wachsen viel schneller im Aquaponikspflanzenbett als auf traditionelle Art und Weise

More Organic Farming Seminars - Mehr Seminare über Bio-Landbau

On June 26 we held another seminar for around 50 attendees with the the topic of Organic Farming and Effective Microorganism (EM) at Dauis municipality, Panglao island, with the mayor, Barangay representatives and farmers attending. - Am 26. Juni hielten wir nochmals ein Seminar für ca. 50 Teilnehmer, mit dem Thema Bio-Landbau und Effektiven Mikroorganismen (EM) in Dauis, Panglao. Der Bürgermeister, Gemeindevorsteher, Bauern, Vorsitzende des Agrikulturverbandes usw. waren anwesend.

Updates to our Aquaponic

The seeds germinate first before being put in the grow bed - Die Saamen müssen zuerst keimen bevor sie in´s Pflanzenbett versetzt werden.

Agricultural Seminars

A lot of the people in Panglao depend on the fishing industry. Since fishing has been reduced in recent years due to over-fishing, many of the fishermen families are looking for other ways to support their children. We have been looking into ways to help the poor families grow vegetables in the poor soil and have organized Agricultural seminars for them. - Ein großer Teil der Menschen in Panglao sind von der Fischindustrie abhängig. Da Fischfang sich in den letzten Jahren aufgrund der Überfischung reduziert hat, sind viele der Fischerfamilien auf der Suche, andere Wege zu finden, ihre Kinder zu ernähren. Wir suchen nach Möglichkeiten, in der kahlen Panglaoerde Gemüse anzupflanzen, und organisieren Agrikulturseminare für sie.

The Vice-Mayor and different Barangay Officials attended as well- Die Vizebürgermeisterin und verschiedene Gemeindevorsteher nahmen auch am Seminar teil

Mediating Work for Poor Craftsmen - Arbeit vermitteln für arme Handwerker

In the course of our mission work, we have met many poor craftsmen in desperate need of work. A friend of ours, Nyle, has built a factory building for his neighbors in order to give them a place to work, and we gave them some power tools that were donated to us a while back in Manila. These carpenters have been introduced to use their craftsmanship to make beds, lockers, towel racks etc. for the Bellevue Hotel in Bohol. - Im Verlaufe unserer Arbeit treffen wir immer wieder Handwerker, die dringend Arbeit brauchen. Unser Freund Nyle hat für seine Nachbarn eine Werkhalle gebaut, sodass sie einen Werkplatz haben, und wir gaben ihnen Elektrowerkzeug, welches wir lange zuvor in Manila erhalten haben. Hier sehr Ihr ein paar Schreiner beim Bauen von Kajütenbetten, Schränken u.s.w. für das Bellevue-Hotel in Panglao.
