Arts & Crafts Summer Course for Orphans - Sommerbastelkurs für Waisenkinder

In the month of May we held summer courses, among which was a Arts & Crafts workshop for 11 orphans from Panglao. They learned to make baskets, pouches and more with recycled materials such as newspapers, chips bags etc. Here you see a picture at the summer course graduation

Im Mai führten wir Sommerkurse, und unter anderem einen Bastelkurs für 11 Waisenkinder aus. Die Kinder und Jugendlichen lernten, mit recyceltem Material Körbchen, Taschen und anderes zu basteln, und haben schon einige davon verkauft. Hier ein Foto vom Sommerschulabschluss

STEPS Summer School Graduation - STEPS Sommerschulabschuss

On May 29 we held our STEPS summer school graduation with 20 children between 3 - 5 years old, and now we are getting new enrollees for both our STEPS and Friendly Waters school. Next week we'll be tiling the 3 school rooms, and then on 16th we'll be ready to start with the new school year.

Wir hatten letzte Woche unseren STEPS Sommerschulabschluss mit 20 Kindern im Alter von 3 - 5 Jahren, und diese Woche fangen wir mit dem Einschreiben der neuen Schüler für STEPS- und Privatschule an. In der nächsten Woche legen wir in unseren 3 Schulzimmern Bodenplatten, und dann am 16. Juni geht´s wieder mit der Schule los!

One of the high lights was 5 year old Philip, after only one month of summer school, reading book 1 of our 12-book reading course! - Beim Schulabschluss war einer der Höhepunkte, wie 5-jähriger Philip nach nur einem Monat schon das erste Buch in einer Reihe von 12 Büchern lesen konnte!

Altogether, 27 children graduated from our STEPS course. In the past 6 months they have learned to read, and have done pre-writing exercises and simple math, and are ready to enter Kindergarten or First grade. - Insgesamt haben 27 STEPSschüler den Kurs abgeschlossen. Damit sind sie bereit, in den Kindergarten, resp. 1. Klasse, einzutreten. Sie haben in den 6 Monaten lesen, ein wenig schreiben und rechnen gelernt.

It´s been 5 months since the earthquake; a lot of progress has been made with the construction of new shelter for the people on Pangangan island, as well as in Candavid and Loon. Following you see a few pictures of the situation on Pangangan.

Wherever you go, there are still broken houses from the earthquake that happened last October - Wo man hingeht findet man noch Spuren vom Erbeben vom 15. Oktober letzten Jahres

In only 30 seconds was this new building destroyed! - In 30 Sekunden wurde dieser Neubau zerstört! 

The housing project has been going on and many houses have been built with the support of sponsors!

This Monday when we went to visit the island to oversee the project, another aftershock hit the island. Because of this the authorities declared that permanent structures cannot be built for one year.  

Diesen Montag, kurz bevor wir auf der Insel ankamen, gab´s wieder ein Nachbeben. Laut Philippinischem Erdbebenzentrum müssen die Inselbewohner noch mehrere Monate warten, bis sie die Bewilligung erhalten, permanente Strukturen zu bauen. 

Just a few days ago, another sinkhole was discovered close to the Elementary school. It has a diameter of about 2 meters and is 2,5 meters deep, with freshwater inside. - Gerade vor ein paar Tagen wurde in der Nähe der Elementarschule eine neue Sinkhöhle entdeckt. Sie hat ca. 2,5 m Durchmesser und ist mehrere Meter tief, anscheinend mit Frischwasser drin.

Wherever you go schools are still operating in tents, and that in whole Bohol! - Überall wo man hingeht sind die Schulen noch in Zelten, und das in ganz Bohol! 

On the island, people get their drinking water twice a day in big canisters. - Wasser zum Trinken und Waschen muss mittels Kanistern jeden Morgen und Abend am Eingang der Insel abgeholt werden.

Through a private initiative was this Elementary school on Pangangan island built! Let’s pray for a new high school, since the old one was completely destroyed in the quake! (Picture below) - Durch eine Privatinitiative wurde diese Elementarschule mit 2 Gebäuden gebaut. Betet mit uns, sodass wir beim Aufbau der Sekundarschule mithelfen können. Sie wurde im Erdbeben völlig zertstört. (Bild unten)

The name „Bohol“ comes from the word „Boho”, which means hole or cave. Bohol is built on caves. Not very trustworthy... - Hier seht Ihr Jo im Hintergrund einer Sinkhöhle, die beim Erdbeben im Oktober letzten Jahres entstanden ist. Sie liegt hinter der Sekundär schule. Das Wort Bohol stammt von „Boho“, was Loch oder Höhle heisst. Die ganze Insel Bohol steht auf Höhlen! Nicht gerade vertrauenserweckend...

Here we are delivering 1000 Aluminium sheets for the rebuilding of the broken houses in Loon. - Hier bringen wir 1000 Aluminium Dachschienen für den Häuserbau in Loon.

All in all we have distributed 4000 Aluminium roof sheets, 60 boxes of nails and umbrella nails, as well as working tools such as hammers, saws, pliers etc. to Loon, Candavid and Pangangan. Around 400 houses are receiving roofs with these materials! It was because of our donors that we were able to pass on all these materials to the above mentioned places, and in behalf of all the recipients we thank them and pray that God will bless them manifold!

Insgesamt haben wir soweit über 4000 Aluminiumdächer, 60 Schachteln von Nägeln und viel Werkzeug, wie z.B. Hämmer, Sägen, Zangen u.s.w. an Loon, Pangangan und Candavid verteilt. Damit werden mehr als 400 Häuser bedacht. Viele Sponsoren haben uns mit ihren Spenden sehr beim Häuserbau unterstützt, und wir bedanken uns im Namen aller Empfänger ganz, ganz herzlich! Summer School Graduation

1st STEPS Graduation in Bohol

On August 22, 2012, The Bellevue Resort, Bohol, hosted the graduation of the 1st batch of STEPS graduates.- Am 22. August 2012 hielten wir den Abschluss von 22 STEPS-Schülern im Bellevue Resort in Panglao, Bohol.

After many days of preparation and rehearsal, the 22 children and their parents were exited when the Graduation day finally arrived. Each child, dressed in a traditional Toga (Togas sponsored by Mrs. Elvieh Sarmiento), was ready to do a little presentation, such as singing a song, on the spot reading from the Early Bird Readers, or reciting a poem. - Nach vielen Tagen der Vorbereitung war es endlich soweit: Der Schulabschluss! Jedes Kind, in einer traditionellen Toga  gekleidet, war bereit, entweder ein Lied zu singen, aus den Lesebüchern zu lesen oder ein Gedicht zu rezitieren.

Proceeding, each child received a Graduation Certificate, handed by Mr. Dustin Chan. - Anschliesslich erhielt jedes Kind ein STEPS Abschlusszeugnis, welches von Dustin Chan, Sohn und Nachfolger von Herr Johnny Chan, ausgehändigt wurde.

Mrs. Anunciason Salon from the Department of Education, Panglao, and Mr. Franz Eichenauer, GM, spoke words of appreciation, after which Chairman Johnny Chan received from Mr. & Mrs. Gamonez an Appreciation Certificate for his years of faithfully supporting the mission. - Nachdem Frau Salon vom Schulungsdepartment und Herr Eichenauer, Hotelführer, ein paar Worte der Anerkennung sprachen, erhielt Herr Johnny Chan ein Anerkennungszertifikat von uns für seine grosszügige Unterstützung unserer Mission.

 

The crowning of the graduation was a delicious dinner for each of the attendees, sponsored by The Bellevue Resort, Bohol. Needless to say the joy and gratitude the children and parents felt for such a treat! - Dei Krönung des Abends war eine leckere Mahlzeit, welche das Bellevue Resort spendete. Wir fühlten uns alle verwöhnt!

STEPS Graduation - STEPS Abschluss

30 STEPS Students graduated last Saturday, 15th of October, in MGV in Paranaque. After weeks of preparation, the day of graduation finally arrived! 30 children, aged 3 - 5, received their certificates of graduation for a free 6 months course in reading, writing, math etc.

30 STEPS-Schüler feierten letzten Samstag, dem 15. Oktober, in Marcelo Green Village, Paranaque, ihren Abschluss. In unserem 6-monatigen Kurs lernen 3-5 Jährige Lesen, einfaches Schreiben, Rechnen etc. Die Kinder sind aus umliegenden Armenvierteln, v.a. aus Mangahan & Kawayanan.

Our STEPS school, that caters mainly to the poor, has been in existence since over 2 years, and so far more than 100 children in their preschool age have learned to read, write and do simple math in six months courses.
